Funeral service for Theodore B. DeValcourt, 58 years, widely known sweet potato planter of Sunset, who died suddenly Thursday night, were conducted Saturday at the Sacred Heart Catholic church in Grand Coteau. Interment was made in the Catholic cemetery there.

Mr. DeValcourt was a native of St. Landry parish where he was widely known. He operated one of the more successful sweet potato businesses in that section and was prominently identified with the state sweet potato association.

Apparently in excellent health, Mr. DeValcourt was in Opelousas Thursday attending to business. He suffered a heart attack at his home that night and death followed shortly after.

Surviving Mr. DeValcourt are his wife, nee Louise Darby, a son Mathew, three daughters, Mrs. Preston Guidry, Mrs. Frank Domingue, and Miss Leatrice DeValcourt, three brothers, Albert, William and Edward DeValcourt, and two sisters, Mrs. J. E. Dailey and Mrs. Aspasie Guidry all of the Sunset-Grand Coteau section.

The sudden death Thursday night of T. B. (Bebe) Devalcourt at his home in Sunset was a shock not only to his immediate family but to the entire community.

Mr. Devalcourt, large potato grower and shipper and member of a prominent St. Landry family, was in his 59th year. He is survived by his widow, nee Louise Darby, one son, Matthew Devalcourt; three daughters, Mrs. Frank Domingue, Mrs. Preston Guidry and Miss Leatrice Devalcourt all of Sunset; and several grandchildren.

Three brothers, Albert, Edward and William Devalcourt, one sister, Mrs. J. E. Dailey, and one half sister, Mrs. Aspazie Guidry, all of Sunset, several nieces and nephews also survive.

Mrs. Preston Guidry, with her husband, was en route by motor to Detroit and received the message from her family at Cairo, Ill. She returns today by plane.

Funeral services were held this morning at 10 a.m. in the Catholic Church at Grand Coteau with interment in the cemetery there.
