John Willie Savoie, 70, cotton farmer of Opelousas, died of a heart ailment in his sleep sometime between midnight Tuesday and 4 a.m. today. He resided on the old Port Barre road.

Savoie was a native and lifelong resident of Opelousas.

The body is at Lafond and Son Funeral Home. Service will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday at St. Landry Catholic Church. Burial will be in Sacred Heart cemetery in Grand Coteau.

Savoie is survived by nine sons, Gurvis, Albert, Eldridge, Ashton, Alvin, John Willie, Jr., Harold, Thomas, and Henry Savoie all of Opelousas.

Other survivors are two brothers Leo and Ollie Savoie of this city; two sisters, Mrs. Esmond Smith of Sunset and Mrs. Sam Walker of Opelousas; and 31 grandchildren.
