Born Kevin Thomas Hardy, he attended St. Elizabeth High School in Oakland, California and played collegiate football at the University of Notre Dame. While with the Fighting Irish, he excelled at football, basketball and baseball. He was a key player on the 1966 National Champion football squad, as he achieved All-American honors. Selected by the New Orleans Saints as the number seven overall pick during the 1968 NFL Draft, he totaled 45 career regular season games.
