SUNSET -- Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday for Alex Devalcourt, 74, Sunset farmer, who died at 10:20 p.m. Monday at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Alexandria. he had been ill about eight months.

Devalcourt was a native and life long resident of Sunset. He was a veteran of World War I and a member of the Sunset American Legion Post.

Devalcourt's body is at Lafond and Son Funeral Home chapel in Sunset. The rosary will be recited there at 8 tonight. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Grand Coteau. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Devalcourt is survived by his wife, the former Esther Leger of Sunset; one daughter, Mrs. Sturgis Schexnayder of Metairie; three stepsons, Percy Simoneaux of Lawtell, Aubrey and Weston Simoneaux, both of Lafayette; two sisters, Misses Caroline and Laura Devalcourt, both of New Orleans; 17 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
