Joe Smith

ECRU - Jessie Joe Smith, 71, died Monday, July 10, 2006, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He was a retired employee of Kroger and MDOT. He was a U.S. Army veteran, a Shriner and a Catholic.

A Rosary service will be at 8 p.m. today. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Browning Funeral Home Chapel in Ecru with Father Tim Murphy and the Rev. Bill Dowdy officiating. Burial will be in Cairo Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Lois Smith of Ecru; three daughters, Bonnie Jo Brady of LaPlace, La., Peggy Lynn Ledet of Belle Chasse, La., and Lisa Kay Fryar of Jacksonville, Fla.; one stepdaughter, Sherrye Irby of Pontotoc; one son, John Micheal Smith of Belle Chasse, La.; one stepson, Jeff Glover of Oxford; one sister, Sharon Marie Olivier of New Iberia, La.; 11 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Jack Lucius Smith and Bertha Burleigh Smith; a sister, Betty Joyce Smith; and a granddaughter, Liza.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8:30 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. to service time Thursday.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the Shriners Cripple Children's Hospital.
