OPELOUSAS- Funeral services will be held for Llewellyn “L.P.” Burleigh at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 28, 2015, in the Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home Chapel of Opelousas. Reverend Mike Fitzgerald and Reverend Roy Baker will conduct the funeral service. Interment will be held at Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mr. Burleigh, age 85, a life-time resident of Sunset, died on Saturday, April 25, 2015, at his home in Sunset surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Burleigh served his country proudly in the United States Navy “Sea Bee’s 2” during the Korean War Conflict. He was an extreme gardener and his yard was his pride and joy. While he was an electrician by trade he also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a deacon at the Calvary Baptist Church of Opelousas. Mr. Burleigh was a devoted family man and he will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Estelle B. Burleigh of Sunset, LA; his son, David Burleigh and wife, Yvette of Sunset, LA; his daughter, Geraldine B. Hammond and husband, John of Carencro, LA; his brothers, Leo Burleigh and wife, Audrey of Lafayette, LA, Robert “Bobby” Burleigh of Sunset, LA, Harold Burleigh and wife, Peggy of Carencro, LA; his sisters, Doris Begnaud of Lafayette, LA, Ida Ruth Leger and husband, Lezime of Opelousas, LA; his grandchildren, Kevin Hammond and wife, Kristi of Lewisburg, LA, Lisa Hammond of Carencro, LA, Christopher Burleigh and wife, Sandra of Puerto Rico, Adam and Ashley Burleigh of Opelousas, LA; his great-grand children, Scott Hammond II of Lafayette, LA, Job and Timothy Hammond of Carencro, LA, Arakai and Dekland Burleigh of Tacoma, WA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Pancratius “Pen” and Helena Burleigh, his grandchild, Scott Hammond, Sr. “Anthony Scott”; and great-grand child, Naomi Scott.
Pallbearers will be Christopher Burleigh, Adam Burleigh, Harold Burleigh, Robert "Bobby" Burleigh, Leo Burleigh and J. W. Stelly.

Visitation will be held at the LaFond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas on Monday, April 27, 2015, from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. The funeral home will reopen on Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. until time of service.
